I have a question about the value of gaming consoles at GameStop?
I want to get and Xbox 360 because SquareEnix is switching consoles. All of my favorite games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy are going to Xbox. I want to save a little money on a new Xbox so I’m thinking of trading in some stuff. I have an original Nintendo DS and six games including mario kart and super mario brothers. I have all the cases and booklets that come with the games too. I also have the charger for the Nintendo and a handy carrying case. I don’t want to exchange my PS2 but I’m interested about how much I could get for it. I know that everything I have isn’t in high demand, but I never use it and a couple bucks off would be nice.
What do you think about refurbished systems over new? I’ve been told that refurbished systems tend to fail. If you do recommend a refurbished system, microsoft refurbished or GameStop refurbished?
I do realize that I will get more money selling locally, but I would like to know exactly how much GameStop will give me.
It’s hard to give you an exact trade-in value for your items seeing how all stores vary.
An original Nintendo DS will trade at about 80 bucks. Each game for the DS will trade at about 30 to 50 bucks if the case and manual is included. The title of the game doesn’t matter much, but if you have more popular titles you will tend to get a little bit more store credit.
You wouldn’t get much for your PS2 since Gamestop, EB Games and GameTraders are all trying to get rid of their PS2 stock to make way for Wii, 360 and PS3 stock. You would only get about 100 bucks for the PS2. You could possibly get less, depending on the condition and the trade will also vary if it contains the box and manuals etc.
If you are planning to buy a gaming console of any sort, go with a brand new one. Don’t get a refurbished console. Especially not a refurbished 360. If you want your 360, then get a brand new one and avoid getting a pre-owned one at all costs.
The only way to find out the exact trade-in value you would get is to contact Gamestop and ask them personally.
