Where did Mario and Luigi get their names?
I’ve heard that Miyamoto got the name from a local pizza parlor, “Mario and Luigi’s”, among other things I can’t quite remember, but I’ve never heard any definite answer.
1) Mario was named after Mario Segali, the Italian owner of the Nintendo warehouse. Mario and Luigi’s last name is Mario; hence, Mario Mario and Luigi Mario are the Mario brothers.
2) why the names Mario and Luigi you ask? Well, as Miyamoto was trying to think of what to name “Jumpman”, his landlord showed up, demanding the rent. As it just so happened, his landlord’s name was Mario Segale. Now as for Luigi, he was named for a pizza parlor down the street called “Mario & Luigi’s”.
