Questions about Wii modding?
Hey, I have a Nintendo Wii v. 4.2u I believe which we got for Christmas.
My friend is willing to softmod my wii for free, all he said is he needs an SD card from me. 4.2u works apparently.
My concerns are:
1.I asked him if I have Wii Connect 24 on would it update and mess the wii up (brick). He said yea, just make sure Wii Connect 24 is set to off , if not and updates over night or something it can either remove the homebrew or brick it. There is Boot Mii loader which unbricks it or say you tried updating your wii firmware and it
2. Some games like New Super Mario Bros require updating, how do you play without updating firmware?
3. Can old channels like the Internet,News and Weather still work?
4. Can you play games online?
My friend couldn’t answer the last questions because he wii isn’t hooked up to internet.
oh do games burnt on blank DVD’s have the same graphic quality as the legit disk?
Alex, what version is your wii?
1. There’s no question for one! What your friend says is accurate. Homebrew can brick your wii beyond repair if done incorrectly. It was worth the risk for me, however.
2. 4.2 is the newest, so you won’t have to update for a while. When you do, though, you do NOT update through nintendo. You have to go online and find the latest guide to updating for homebrew. I’m in this boat right now: I didn’t mod my own console, so I find the update guides a little difficult to understand. If you do your own homebrew, you’re more likely to understand what’s going on when it’s time to update.
3. Most of these still work. My shopping channel does not, possibly because I need to update to 4.2
4. Yes, you can still play online just fine. 
I’m really enjoying mario kart online again. It was awful for a while because other people with homebrew were really into cheating, but that seems to have declined.
AD: I have no idea. In theory, yes? I use a USB backup loader, and have never played a burned disk on my wii. The quality is great and load times are slightly reduced.
