Would you buy a 3 foot plastic Mario?
I recently acquired a plastic figure of Mario (from the Nintendo games). It’s 3 foot high, made of plastic, lights up, and painted just like Mario. It’s similar to one of those lawn Santa’s, but it’s made of better material. I have a feeling I could get some $ out of it on ebay. The story is that a guy at a gaming shop closed his business and sold it, and it’s one of only 100 made. Whether or not that is true is another issue. I’m just curious if you think anyone would buy it. How much would you buy it for?

Actually, I think this would definitely have some value to a collector, the more realistic it looks and less like a cheap rip-off the better. If the story of the guy at the store is correct, you could be in for a good sale.
On the other hand, I’ve seen knock-off or custom made stuff have a hard time selling on eBay. If somebody already made you an offer, you may want to consider that because it would be quick and easy, and less hassle than setting up an auction then shipping it.
But if it’s authentic, it would probably be worth your trouble because it could be pretty valuable to a collector. Try researching the figure further online to look for any similar ones (try Google, eBay, and craigslist.org). Since Nintendo stuff is pretty popular, you should be able to find some info. Look for any distinguishing marks especially on the back or bottom of the figure that might tell you where it came from. If you find out it’s worth a certain value (like $100-200) and you decide you wish to auction it, set a minimum price a little below this (50-75% of what you think it’s worth) then be prepared to wait 10 days for people to bid. I don’t recommend using a reserve price unless you found out it’s *truly* worth more than $500.
